Corrosion-resistant fans for corrosive environments — stainless steel AISI 304 and PP/PE plastic

Corrosion-resistant fans for corrosive environments are centrifugal units built from chemically resistant materials — stainless steel AISI 304 or PP/PE engineering plastic — designed for the transport and extraction of air containing vapours or gases that are aggressive towards standard steel or aluminium. A standard industrial fan degrades rapidly in such environments — corrosion attacks welds and flanges first, then progresses to the rotor and bearings, leading to premature failure within months or even weeks.

The category includes two distinct Casals series, each optimised for a specific type of corrosive application:


MDI Series — Stainless steel AISI 304 centrifugal fan, forward-curved impeller

Series: Casals MDI Construction: welded AISI 304 stainless steel housing, single-inlet forward-curved stainless steel impeller, IP55 Class F insulation motor Maximum air temperature: 130°C (single-phase) / 130°C (three-phase) Mounting: inline installation, direct duct connection, 16 mounting positions available Power supply: single-phase 230V or three-phase 230/400V, 50Hz Power range: 0.12 kW – 1.1 kW

The stainless steel advantage over plastic: AISI 304 stainless steel withstands significantly higher temperatures than plastic (up to 130°C vs 70°C for PP/PE) and offers superior mechanical resistance to physical shocks and pressure. It is the correct choice for corrosive air at elevated temperatures or applications where mechanical casing strength is important.

Typical applications: extraction of hot corrosive air from industrial processes (dryers, kilns at moderate temperatures), transport of air with acid or base vapours at temperatures below 130°C, food industry ventilation with corrosive emissions, industrial laboratories with thermal processes and any application where corrosive air temperature exceeds 70°C.


MBP Series — PP/PE plastic centrifugal fan, backward-curved impeller, self-cleaning system

Series: Casals MBP Construction: PE plastic housing, PP plastic backward-curved impeller with self-cleaning system, rolled steel motor support with polyester powder coating, stainless steel bolts Maximum air temperature: 70°C (clean air) — others as per gas table in documentation Mounting: inline installation, 16 mounting positions, three-phase standard Power supply: three-phase 230/400V, 50Hz standard; single-phase on request up to 1.1 kW Power range: 0.12 kW – 5.5 kW

The plastic advantage over stainless steel: polyethylene (PE) and polypropylene (PP) offer superior chemical resistance compared to stainless steel for strong acids, chlorine and other oxidising agents. An MBP fan withstands environments where even AISI 304 stainless steel would corrode over time. The PP backward-curved impeller with self-cleaning system prevents accumulation of impurities and corrosive substances on the rotor — a major advantage in environments with fine dust or chemical aerosols.

Typical applications: chemical and petrochemical industry (hydrochloric, sulphuric and nitric acid vapours at moderate concentrations), laboratories and gas cabinets with aggressive vapours, extraction from electroplating and surface treatment halls (chlorine vapour, hydrochloric acid), wastewater treatment and water processing plants, indoor swimming pools (chlorine vapour) and any environment where the concentration of corrosive chemical agent exceeds what standard stainless steel can tolerate.
