Corrosive environment ATEX

Corrosion-resistant ATEX fans — for corrosive environments with potentially explosive atmosphere Zone 2

Corrosion-resistant ATEX fans simultaneously address two major technical challenges: resistance to chemical corrosion and explosion safety in ATEX Zone 2 gas-classified environments. This combination — corrosive air in spaces with explosion risk — is common in the chemical and petrochemical industry, in laboratories with volatile organic solvents and in wastewater treatment installations with methane or hydrogen sulphide emissions.

Using a standard corrosion-resistant fan (without ATEX certification) or an ATEX fan without chemical resistance in these environments is a double error: the first can ignite the explosive mixture, the second will degrade rapidly from corrosion and fail prematurely — precisely in the highest-risk moments. The Casals MBPCX and MBPX series solve both problems with a single certified solution.

MBPCX Series — Plastic ATEX fan, forward-curved impeller

Series: Casals MBPCX ATEX certification: II 3G — Category 3, Group II, Gases — for Zone 2 (low-probability explosive gas/vapour atmosphere) Construction: PP-el housing (models ≥size 35) or PE-el (models <size 35), forward-curved PP plastic impeller, steel motor support with polyester coating, stainless steel bolts, ATEX motor IP55 Class F Maximum air temperature: 70°C (clean air) — others as per gas table Mounting: inline installation, 16 positions available Power supply: three-phase 230/400V (up to 4 kW) and 400/690V (higher powers) Power range: 0.12 kW – 7.5 kW

Forward-curved blades generate high airflow at moderate static pressure — an advantage in localised extraction installations where evacuated air volume takes priority over static pressure.

Applications: general ventilation in Zone 2 spaces with corrosive air, gas cabinet extraction with organic solvents in laboratories, chemical industry hall ventilation with low explosion risk and corrosive atmosphere, localised extraction in processes with flammable and corrosive vapour emissions.

MBPX Series — Antistatic plastic ATEX fan, backward-curved impeller

Series: Casals MBPX ATEX certification: II 3G — Category 3, Group II, Gases — for Zone 2 Construction: antistatic PE-el housing (critical differentiator vs MBPCX), PP plastic backward-curved impeller, steel motor support with polyester coating, stainless steel bolts, ATEX motor IP55 Class F Maximum air temperature: 70°C (clean air) — others as per gas table Mounting: inline installation, 16 positions available Power supply: three-phase 230/400V, 50Hz Power range: 0.12 kW – 5.5 kW

The defining characteristic — antistatic PE-el housing: PE-el (electrical polyethylene) has a controlled electrical resistivity that dissipates electrostatic charges accumulated by particles in the airstream, preventing electrostatic discharges that could ignite the explosive mixture. This is the critical difference from MBPCX which uses standard PP — MBPX is the solution for environments where particles or gases in the air can generate electrostatic charges.

Backward-curved blades provide the self-limiting power characteristic — safe for VFD operation if airflow adjustment is required. Better aerodynamic efficiency than forward-curved blades.

Applications: Zone 2 ventilation with additional electrostatic accumulation risk (air transport with fine suspended particles, gases with low electrical resistivity), extraction installations in chemical and petrochemical industry with flammable and corrosive organic solvents, research laboratories with hazardous solvents and any Zone 2 corrosive application where electrostatic risk is documented in the ATEX risk assessment.

Mandatory documentation at purchase — both series: ATEX certificate issued by notified body (marking II 3G), declaration of conformity with Directive 2014/34/EU, ATEX motor data sheet. Verify that the specific Ex marking corresponds to the gas subgroup and temperature class of your classified space.
