Inline EC motor fans — maximum energy efficiency for ducted ventilation installations

Inline fans with EC motor are the maximum energy efficiency solution for ducted ventilation installations — equipment combining invisible inline duct mounting with the minimum consumption characteristic of EC technology. Compared to AC equivalents, the integrated EC motor reduces consumption by 30–50% at partial loads — the dominant operating regime in residential and commercial installations where airflow varies with occupancy.

They are the EC variant of the classic inline fan: same compact footprint, same compatibility with standard circular ductwork, same low noise levels compared to wall fans — but with the permanent magnet motor and integrated electronic control that completely eliminate external speed controllers. The 0-10V or Modbus RTU control signal allows direct connection to CO₂ sensors or BMS systems without any intermediate equipment.

Widely used in residential ducted ventilation for bathrooms, kitchens and bedrooms — replacing standard extractors with a more efficient and quieter solution for 3–12 metre duct runs, in small and medium offices with existing ventilation ductwork where energy efficiency must be improved without replacing pipework, as EC boosters on ventilation duct runs where nominal airflow is no longer sufficient, and in commercial spaces with automatic operation requirements — CO₂ sensor commanding the EC directly, without a separate control panel.

The advantage over AC inline: a 150W inline fan running 12 hours/day saves approximately 330–450 kWh/year through the EC motor compared to its AC equivalent. At a typical energy tariff, that is €53–72/year per fan — the price premium over the AC variant is recovered in under 2 years.

The range covers diameters from 100 mm to 630 mm, power from 20W upwards, single-phase (230V) and three-phase (400V), with connections compatible with standard circular ductwork and integrated back-draught shutters on select models.

How to choose: verify the existing or planned duct diameter — dimensional compatibility is mandatory, no adaptors. Calculate installation static pressure and confirm the selected model delivers the nominal airflow at this pressure — a frequent error when replacing AC with EC is choosing an EC model with lower power than actually required, due to confusion between nominal power and actual airflow at installation pressure.
