Smoke extract fans — inside hazardous area mounting, F300/F400 certified

Fans for mounting inside the hazardous area are smoke extraction safety equipment certified to operate directly in the hot smoke stream — installed inside the fire-affected space or in the smoke duct, they extract hot gases at temperatures of 300°C or 400°C for 60 or 120 minutes, as required by the applicable building regulations and standard EN 12101-3.

This category imposes the most stringent certification requirements in the entire ventilation equipment range: the fan, motor, bearings, seals and all components must function in an environment of extreme temperatures, smoke and combustion gases. Unlike the "outside hazardous area" category where the motor is shielded from the smoke stream, here the entire assembly is exposed to fire conditions.

Mandatory in smoke control configurations where locating the fan outside the hazardous area is impossible due to the building's architectural configuration or excessive smoke duct length: underground car parks with impulse ventilation (jet fans ceiling-mounted), industrial halls with centralised smoke extraction through ductwork, tunnels and underpasses and buildings with complex geometry where smoke ducts would be too long for an efficient external installation.

Documents to verify at purchase — mandatory: type certificate issued by a European notified body (not the manufacturer's internal certificate), performance declaration to EN 12101-3, CE marking with notified body number, and documents confirming temperature classification (F300 or F400) and duration (60 or 120 minutes).
